Folk that go up the pub and have 2 or 3 pints in their work lunch break
Does anyone still do this?
It used to be the norm years ago.
Probly frowned upon nowadays.

I was at Tullets in the late 90's - my interview was conducted in Gow's wine bar - consisting mainly of how much Bollinger i could drink.

My MATE (who is a big drinker) is a manager of about 15 staff in a pensions firm in the City... no drink policy for ALL staff.... in fact once he went into teh pub and frogmarched out the whole of his staff one lunchtime birthday drink... and that included his staff that was drinking soft drinks... ha ha ha... I would have shoved a pint pot over his swede.... cunt

Back in the days of the LIFFE floor in the city every boozer/wine bar nearby was rammed every lunchtime. Deacons, The Cannon, London Stone, The Banker, Watling, Lautrecs, Hatchet, The Bell, The Golf Club, City FOP, 25, Arbitrager, The Regalia, Jam Pot, Walrus and Carpenter, College Press, Whittingtons, Flowitts to name but a few, many of whom are gone now.

Nowadays most firms have strict no drinking/drugs rules in place, even to the point of having to be careful the next morning if you had a skin full the night before.

Used to early houses after a night shift on LUL
The Hope Smithfield Market
The Railway Stratford
The Caxton The Highway
The Rose of Denmark Silvertown way

Supposed to close at 9 am but The Rose was open all of the time. A Shithole had a toilet with no roof. They did a promotion a pound a pint before 9 am all the winos came in from the surrounding areas. Was like the bar at the end of the Universe

Got so pissed up once got on the train at Fenchurch street to go to Barking to fell asleep woke in Shoeburyness. The commuters on the platform not impressed with a bloke pissed on the platform at that time in the morning, Breaking my next for piss on the way back as well got of at Chalkwell had a piss at the end platform.

Got back to Barking just as my local opened went in their had some fun with the lunchtime crowd

Used to work in Farm Steet Mayfair for a computer bureau for the advertising world in the mid 80"s - Coach & Horses would be open at 6 am for the shift guys most days- in the end i was doing 5 pints of guinness at lunchtime. Crazy, happy , hazy days.

Also the location of Phil Lynott's last visit to the pub- saw him in there the lunchtime he died- he was also eating a Ginsters Cornish Pasty -Ive never felt good about them since ;-)

Worked at milk a plant through my summers during my first stint at university.

One of the forklift drivers would come back super happy after every lunch and try to kill us all.

It was a union shop, so he didn't get fired but I did get paid a whole lot for dodging him.

in the mid 80s i worked doing telesales in romford , lunchtime drinking was the norm and sales increased in the afternoons as we were all more chatty for some reason.

was on 200 quid a week in those days , highest paid of all my mates .

Re: Folk that go up the pub and have 2 or 3 pints in their work lunch break
When I worked at the MoD Friday afternoons were usually a complete write off. I formed the opinion that the Army had a specialist serious drinking module at Sandhurst and I used to really like a drink.
It was always someone's birthday, anniversary, leaving do, kid's birthday and once the port came out all bets were off.
All that died off once the millenium happened.

Digger driver on a site I worked at would have four pints of Guinness every day at lunch.

Fuck even having a pint at lunch, did it once and spent all afternoon trying to stay awake. I don’t know why alcohol is so popular.

Spot cross currencies.......they used to have naughty boy Fridays where someone fucked up a deal and Tulletts had to pay the bank for the fuck-up.

So, they'd hold the whole desk back once trading had finished and play the tapes back until they found the error, then try and work out if the bloke had been on the piss at lunch time.

I had so much fun with that job. Liver, not so much. International sales at BT. I have a horror story about a trip to Tulletts in NYC (Ted Castator) with the Comms. Manager from London, Alan Brace. Lucky to survive.

Tullets was never about the liquid, more the powder type lunch. Especially late 90s probably the same now in the trade.

I met a head of desk from one of the top four London FX brokers (Tullet's) in the mid 90s. My group was putting together a proposal to manage parts of their business and I waned to understand what this bloke saw as mission critical from his Comms. Department.

We met at a pub near Broad Street at 10.30, and I wandered out of there after 5 pints of Stella a 11.45.

Fortunately I'd warned my boss, and I was put on light duties for the afternoon and hidden away from public view.
